Delaware Shooting Stars is a nonprofit girls’ basketball organization dedicated to developing athletes both on and off the court. We focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game, teamwork, leadership, and discipline while preparing players for competitive AAU and travel-level basketball.
We currently offer teams for elementary through high school girls (grades 3–12). Team placement is based on skill level, age, and competitive experience to ensure each player is challenged and supported appropriately.
Yes! We are fully registered and sanctioned through AAU Basketball, which means all players and coaches are verified members under the Amateur Athletic Union, and our program carries comprehensive insurance coverage for player and facility safety.
Our season typically runs from March through July, with optional fall or winter training sessions. Teams practice 2–3 times per week and participate in weekend tournaments across Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and nearby states. Tournament schedules are shared with families in advance.
Practices are held at local schools and community gyms in Sussex and Kent Counties. We partner with area schools and recreation facilities that share our mission of supporting youth development and community engagement.
Program costs vary by age group and tournament schedule but generally include uniforms, tournament fees, gym rentals, and insurance. We also provide fundraising opportunities and sponsorship options to help reduce costs for families in need.
We believe in developing the whole athlete, not just basketball skills. Our program includes:
Study Hall and Life Skills sessions for academic support and character development.
Positive mentorship from experienced coaches and former players.
Exposure opportunities through high-level tournaments and college showcases.
A strong emphasis on team culture, accountability, and confidence.
Yes! We encourage multi-sport athletes. We just ask that players communicate scheduling conflicts early so our coaches can plan accordingly. We value balance and know that playing multiple sports can enhance athletic growth.
Players attend tryouts or evaluation sessions where coaches assess skill, effort, and attitude. We look for players who are coachable, hardworking, and committed to improving. Everyone is given a fair opportunity to earn a roster spot.
We expect our players to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship at all times. Parents are encouraged to support their child positively and uphold our program’s values. Our goal is to create an uplifting environment where every player feels valued.
Our teams are led by qualified coaches with playing and coaching experience at the youth, high school, and collegiate levels. All coaches are AAU-certified, have passed background checks, and are committed to player development and safety.

Yes! As a nonprofit, we host community events, academic workshops, and mentoring sessions that focus on leadership, confidence, and life readiness all designed to help our athletes succeed beyond basketball.
Our mission is to create college-ready athletes and community leaders. Many of our players go on to play at the high school and collegiate levels, and we take pride in helping families navigate the recruiting process, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.
